What We Do

Home care services, in plain language

Home care services are non-medical support provided in a person's own home: help with bathing, dressing, meals, medication reminders, mobility, housekeeping, and companionship. South Bay Home Health Care Agency provides all eight services below across Carson and the greater South Bay with trained, supervised, background-checked caregivers.

Personal Care Assistance

Dignified help with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting and hygiene — the daily essentials, done respectfully.

Meal Preparation

Nutritious meals planned around preferences and dietary needs — shopped for, cooked, and served at home.

Medication Reminders

Timely prompts and oversight so the right medication is taken at the right time, every time.

Mobility Assistance

Safe support with walking, transfers and fall prevention so your loved one keeps moving with confidence.

Respite Care

A trusted break for family caregivers — a few hours, a weekend, or longer — with attentive care at home.

Alzheimer's & Dementia Support

Patient, structured memory care that protects safety and routine while preserving dignity at home.

Post-Hospital Recovery

Extra support after surgery or a hospital stay to ease the transition home and reduce readmission risk.

Scope of Care

What does a home caregiver actually do?

A home caregiver provides hands-on, non-medical support with daily living. In California, non-medical caregivers work under a licensed Home Care Organization and are registered on the state Home Care Aide Registry. Here is exactly what is — and is not — included.

A caregiver can help with

  • Bathing, dressing, grooming and toileting
  • Meal planning, grocery shopping and cooking
  • Medication reminders and prompting
  • Walking, transfers and fall-prevention support
  • Light housekeeping and laundry
  • Companionship, activities and outings
  • Errands and accompaniment to appointments
  • Respite relief for family caregivers

A caregiver cannot provide

  • Skilled nursing care, injections or wound care
  • Administering medication (reminders only)
  • Physical, occupational or speech therapy
  • Medical diagnosis or treatment decisions
  • Services requiring a physician's order
These services belong to a Medicare-certified home health agency. Many families use both types of care together — learn how the two licenses differ, and we're glad to explain what fits your situation.

Cost & Payment

What do these services cost?

Cost depends on hours per week, the level of support, and the schedule — hourly visits, extended shifts, overnight, or 24-hour arrangements. After a free in-home assessment we provide a clear written estimate with no obligation. Families commonly pay through private pay or long-term care insurance; we're glad to walk through what may apply to you.

Trust & Safety

Every service, the same standard

Whichever service your family needs, the caregiver providing it is registered on the California Home Care Aide Registry, background-checked, reference-verified, trained, and supervised by our Carson office. We operate under California HCO license #[[HCO-LICENSE-NUMBER]] — and we show you exactly how to verify it yourself.

Questions, Answered

Home care services FAQ

Which home care service does my parent need?

Most families start with a free in-home assessment. We look at daily routines, safety, mobility and memory, then recommend the smallest amount of help that keeps your parent safe — often a mix, like personal care plus meal preparation. The plan adjusts any time as needs change.

Can services be combined in one visit?

Yes. One caregiver typically covers several services in a single visit — for example, morning personal care, breakfast preparation, a medication reminder, and a walk. You are not billed per service; care is scheduled by hours, built around your loved one's routine.

Do you provide 24-hour, overnight, or live-in care?

We offer hourly care, extended shifts, overnight support and around-the-clock arrangements depending on your family's needs, and we can scale up or down as the situation changes. Tell us the schedule you're trying to cover and we'll confirm availability for your city.

How quickly can a service start?

In most cases care begins within 24 to 72 hours of your first call. Because our office is in Carson, in-home assessments nearby can usually happen within a day. For urgent hospital discharges, call (310) 999-3228 and we will move as fast as possible.

Are these services medical or non-medical?

All eight services are non-medical home care, provided under a California Home Care Organization license. We do not provide skilled nursing or therapy — those come from a Medicare-certified home health agency, and many families use both together. We can coordinate with your medical providers.

Which cities do you serve?

We serve Carson and the greater South Bay of Los Angeles County, including Torrance, Long Beach, Gardena, Compton, Wilmington, San Pedro, Harbor City and Lomita. Our office is at 21109 Grace Ave in Carson — see our Carson home care page for local detail.
